  • Footy season is upon us, it’s mouth guard time!

Footy season is upon us, it’s mouth guard time!

With the footy season around the corner or whatever sport your into (boxing, MMA for those braver than us), its time to organise your custom fit mouthguards.

New research has shown over-the-counter chemist-bought  “boil-n-bite” mouthguards can cause more harm than good as they move around in the mouth.

Granted, custom fit mouthguards are indeed more expensive than store-bought, but a lot cheaper than fixing broken or dislodged teeth! Call, email or book online today to organise yours.

    And remember…

    No mouth guard, no play”.

  • Cosmetic Dentistry

    Cosmetic Dentistry

Teeth whitening and cosmetic dentistry has become increasingly popular over the years due to a social focus on achieving the “perfect smile”…
But, what is the “perfect smile”?
Dr. Robert Bubnic gives his thoughts:
“I believe that the “perfect smile” is one that is first and foremost healthy.
A healthy mouth is free from decay, fractures, anything more than very mild calculus and consequently gum disease. The teeth should be stable in good bone structure and can FUNCTION without pain or sensitivity. Let me again stress that function is key. Cosmetic dentistry is only second to this, and that’s always an important thing to remember.
There is very little point in building a luxury house with the latest fittings on quicksand… it may look impressive in the short term, but it won’t last long.
On the other hand, cosmetic dentistry is a wonderful, exciting and sometimes life-changing event that can restore someones confidence in themselves and give them better prospects for their future or better yet, smile more. There are so many options out there in all different price-ranges that can make a huge impact.”

  • Invisalign – Pros & Cons

    Invisalign – Pros & Cons

    Question by Lauren:
What are the down sides to Invisalign?
Great question, always good to know the cons as well as the pros! Invisalign is the preferred method of orthodontics for most patients, however there are some things to consider. Invisalign is clear so no one will realise you’re wearing them, unlike braces. They can be removed at any time to eat so no food get caught between wires and brackets and you can still brush and floss as normal. All these benefits can be a bit of a double-edged sword.
Like I said before, one of the biggest benefits? You can remove them to eat and clean! So, what’s the down fall? You can remove them!
Let me explain, ideally, Invisalign should be worn for 22 hours a day for maximum effectiveness. Even though we can compensate in other ways if 22 hours of wear is unrealistic for some patients, the fact that compliance is solely in the hands of the patient sometimes doesn’t work in their favour. In other words, you have to be disciplined. Obviously if things don’t track perfectly we can make adjustments and refine things so the end result is perfect but it can affect the journey.
That’s the main downfall and is an important one, otherwise Invisalign is great! Also, as we are a general dental practice, Invisalign with us works out cheaper than braces with a specialist orthodontist.
If you would like to discuss this further with Robert please call us to arrange a completely free Invisalign consultation or CLICK HERE to book.
